A Dad That Draws Comics? How Cool Is That?

Well well well, Father’s Day is upon us again.

Long time readers know that the tradition here at the Depot is to watch To Kill a Mockingbird and bask in the awesome fatherness that is Atticus Finch. And I assure you, that will be done. But in addition to that, I’d like to start a new tradition, and that is to introduce dads that are just plain cool.

So today I’d like to introduce you to Monty S. Kane.

Okay okay everybody. Calm down. I’m excited too.

What’s that you ask? What makes this guy so awesome? Well, I’ll tell you! Read More...

Dreams Are Weird

A few days ago I had an extraordinary dream. I don’t usually remember my dreams, or when I do, I remember them as a mishmash of images and emotions. But every now and then, I have dreams that are continuous in their narrative flow. And that was the case with this particular dream. I also recall it as one of the longest dreams I’ve had, though the passage of time is tricky to measure with dreams. Sometimes scenes segue directly into each other, and the dreamer is left with only the feeling of the amount of time that has passed between them.

It had been a long time since I had made comics for Oliver and Amélie. I wanted to start a new one. I had already made a dinosaur story, an under the sea story, a haunted house story and a knights and dragons story. That left many classic children’s themes yet to pick, and that day I was deciding between an outer space story and a pirate story.

Before long I knew there was great potential for fun if I combined the two themes. Yes. Pirates in space. That would be a great theme. Read More...

Halloween Treat

inv

As a way of saying thank you to all of my readers and well wishers, I have set up a page with a little Halloween project for you and your little ones. It is a little haunted house drawing that can be colored, cut out and assembled. Click the HALLOWEEN TREAT tab on the main navigation bar at the top of this page.

note: This post was inspired by Ms. Single Mama’s recent post about the difficulties of Martha Stewart’s Halloween projects. Hopefully this one is neither too complicated nor too expensive.
