Think You Know Depot Dad?
Though I’ve only been
blogging for four months, some of the emails I’ve
received have displayed pretty acute powers of
observation when it comes to Depot Dad’s personality.
Maybe I’m revealing more between the lines than I
realize. Not only that, but this blog has also
recently reached several people from my distant, long
ago past, in that mythical, mysterious land called
Omaha. Maybe they have an unfair advantage when it
comes to knowing me. But that would only be if I
hadn’t changed much since I was sixteen.
So I ask you. How well do you know Depot Dad?
1: What did Depot Dad have for breakfast this
morning?
a) A bowl of Cap’n Crunch with Crunch Berries
b) A bowl of Safeway Brand Maple Brown Sugar Oatmeal
c) A pint of juiced broccoli sprouts and ginger
d) Eggs Benedict from the cafe down the street
2: What song must Depot Dad howl at the top
of his lungs when he is alone in the car and it comes
on the radio?
a) Roll Me Away by Bob Seger
b) Somebody to Love by Queen
c) Beast of Burden by the Rolling Stones
d) The Waiting by Tom Petty
e) all of the above
3: What magazines will you find laying around
the Depot?
a) Details
b) Highlights
c) Foreign Affairs Monthly
d) Discover
e) none, Depot Dad hates magazines
4: Depot Dad’s mastery of foreign languages
is reduced to muttering inebriated instructions to
cab drivers in Japan and just enough insults to start
a bar fight in France. Nevertheless, Depot Dad does
want to travel abroad again someday. Where does he
want to go next?
a) Austria, to visit the land of Mozart, Karl Kraus
and Ludwig Wittgenstein
b) Canada, to visit the land of Neil Young, Rush,
Triumph and The Cowboy Junkies
c) New Zealand, to visit the land of Hobbits, Elves,
Wizards, and Orcs
d) India, to visit the land of Vishnu, Krishna,
Yogis, and the thousand castes march
5.: Finally, Depot Dad’s dream comes true and
he is sentenced to solitary confinement for thirty
days in a well lit room with a comfortable chair. He
stops off at his book shelf labelled “Want to Read
Some Day.” Which book does he grab on his way to
blissful privacy? (only one of these is
actually on my bookshelf, and yes, I have been
waiting for the perfect moment to read it)
a) The Power of Now by Eckart Tolle
b) The collected works of P.G. Wodehouse
c) The Tales of Beetle the Bard by J.K Rowling
d) The Game, Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup
Artists by Neil Strauss
e) Extreme Measures by Vince Flynn
Well there you go. Some serious blog fluff while I go
to my first appointment with the oncologist. Submit
your multiple choice answers in the comments. The
winner will receive something. I don’t know what.
Something. Tell me what you’d like to win in your
comment. Then if you win, we’ll talk about it.
One last hint. No there is no rhyme or reason to
these questions. You will not find the answers hidden
somewhere on my blog so don’t waste your time
looking. I’m just not clever enough to make a puzzle
like that. (oh maybe a few hints are here or there
but nothing definite). For the most part, its a
crapshoot. Just take a wild guess. I just made these
questions up on the spot for fun. I’ll post the
answers on Wednesday.
