My Secrets Are Safe

Several people responded to my pop quiz about Depot Dad. Some of the entries came in via comments, others through email. Lets see how they did....

In truth, it wasn’t a very fair quiz, since so many of the answers have qualifications that make them correct. For example, in question one, What did Depot Dad have for breakfast this morning? the answer could very well have been A) Capn’ Crunch Crunch Berries since I think I kept The Quaker Oats Company afloat on just this cereal before 1990. But I have since given it up. The correct answer, is in fact, C) A pint of juiced broccoli sprouts and ginger. Which no one could have known, since it was the first time I ever had that. In fact, I’ve had it almost daily since then. One of my clients is a natural foods juicer, and she is providing me with fresh broccoli sprout juice through the duration of my treatment. Woo hoo! It also tastes awesome!

The answer to question number two is also a bit slippery, since all of the songs are of one genre and even people who know me well might not know which one to pick. In this case, it was best to play it safe and guess E) ALL OF THE ABOVE.

Now on to question three. Several people guessed Highlights magazines would be found laying around the house. But, unfortunately, that is the wrong answer. The correct answer is E) NONE, because Depot Dad hates magazines.
And it’s true. I do hate magazines. I would be more inclined to take any magazines left in my possession and intentionally leave them at the dentist’s office, than I would be to try and swipe one from there.

Question number four. No one should have gotten this because it is a secret obsession. The correct answer is A) Austria to visit the land of Mozart, Karl Kraus, and Ludwig Wittgenstein. You see, about fifteen years ago, for reasons I have forgotten, I became seriously obsessed with the history of the city of Vienna in the years 1890-1930. It seems like so many of the conventions, attitudes, and giant ideas of the modern world came out of Austria during that fervent period. I’m darn interested in how that happened. Even things we take for granted in our daily lives like modern coffee shops, got their start in Austria at that time. Add to that names like Freud, Wittgenstein, Musil, Kraus, Klimt, Kokoschka, Weininger, Godel, Mahler, Kafka. If you don’t know the names, look them up on Wikipedia. They are all giants in their field, helped invent the modern world, and all lived in that same small place in those forty odd years. Heck, even Adolf Hitler grew up in that milieu. I mean, just what was in the water then? But, as you can see from this rambling paragraph, the topic is a real conversation killer at cocktail parties so I’ve learned to keep my obsessions to myself. And I won’t subject my blog readers to it again. Lets move on.

The answer to question five is B) The Collected Works of P.G. Wodehouse. For anyone who did their homework on this one, they would have learned that Wodehouse was the creator of Jeeves and Wooster, two very funny fictional characters, and personal favorites of mine. I do love Rowling’s books and have read all of them, but for some reason, the new Beetle the Bard feels like a money grab. (Like she needs it). So I haven’t looked at it. The other books sound positively dreadful to me. I picked them for the list by going to Amazon to see what the best sellers were and grabbed those.

So in the end, the correct answers are, C E E A B.

Who won? Well, Scott got 3 out of 5 correct. But, I have to admit, even though I know he did not know any of the answers, he is actually one of my closest friends and had that unfair advantage. So I have to disqualify him. Sorry Scott.

One other person, Justine, who wrote in via email got 3 out of 5 correct. Great job for blind luck! You win! Justine did not put in a request for a prize (thank goodness) so I will come up with my own prize later.

In second place with 2 out of 5, there is a five way tie between Kitkat4real, Darcy, Debra, Tonya and Roxanne.
Well done.

Obviously I need to spend more time with Julie who got zero correct. Better luck next time, Julie. Oh and don’t worry, I won’t let anyone know you are my sister. I know how to keep a secret.
